Philosophy : This course aims to develop the musical aesthetic of the students , by means of research of some topics related with the transition of music from primitive to modern ages, the genres in music , techniques which have been used to compose music and presumptions about the future of classical music.
Major Goals :
1. to give general information about music notation
2. to teach the general principles of musical techniques: Harmony, counterpoint
3. to compare Turkish music with western music.
4. to familiarize students with Contemporary Turkish Composers and their compositions

Main Teaching Methods:
Some topics like Musical Notes information, harmony and counterpoint will be thought by means of exercises in eight courses. To teach other topics some DVD, Compact Disc and Multimedia tools will be used.

3rd week: Series - Makams - Keys - Chords
4th week: Polyphonic, Monophonic, “PolyInstrumentalic”
5th week: 1st Midterm
6th week: Makam, Mode, Turkish Music and western music
7th week: A musical Technique I: Harmony
8th week: A musical TechniqueII: Counterpoint
9th week: Contemporary Turkish Composers
10th week: 2nd Midterm
11th week: Contemporary Turkish Composers and Styles /Methods
12th week: Unbearable Lightness of Pop Music
13th week: Jazz
14.Hafta: Primitive Music and Modern Music
